How a round works

Teen Patti uses a standard 52-card deck. Each round begins with a boot or ante — every player puts a set amount into the pot. The dealer then deals three cards face-down to each player.

After receiving their cards, a player decides whether to "Chalo" (continue playing) or "Pack" (fold). Players who choose Chalo must raise their bet. A player can also play without looking at their cards — this is called "Andar" or blind play, where the bet amount is half. Playing after looking at your cards is called "Seen" or Chokh Kora.

Players fold one by one until two remain, who then take part in a "showdown" — revealing their cards. The player with the stronger hand wins the entire pot. At joya9 online, this entire process takes place in real time with a live dealer.

Hand Rankings and Scoring

The strength of a hand in Teen Patti follows a specific order. The list below is arranged from the strongest hand to the weakest. Remember, in a tie the winner is decided by card value — Ace is the strongest and 2 is the weakest.

Rank Hand Name Description
1 Trail / Set Three cards of the same value (e.g. three Kings)
2 Pure Sequence (Straight Flush) Three consecutive cards of the same suit
3 Sequence (Run) Three consecutive cards, suit does not need to match
4 Flush / Color Any three cards of the same suit
5 Pair Two cards of the same value
6 High Card None of the above combinations — compared by the highest card

Tie-breaking rules

  • In a Trail tie, the higher-value set wins (Ace > King > Queen …)
  • In Pure Sequence, A-K-Q is the strongest; A-2-3 is second
  • In Flush or High Card, the first card is compared, then the second, then the third
  • In a Pair, the pair value is compared first, then the kicker card value

Memorising hand values may feel difficult at first — but after a few rounds it becomes natural.

Against the dealer or against other players?

Multiplayer

Against other players

In classic Teen Patti, all players compete against each other. Everyone's bets go into the pot and the winner takes it all. This format offers more room to bluff — because you can try to read your opponents.

Dealer vs Player

Against the dealer (casino format)

In the online casino format, players often play directly against the house dealer. If the dealer's hand is not at least Queen-high, the dealer does not "qualify" and the player automatically wins the ante bet. Both types of tables are available in joya9's joya9 Casino section.

The strategy for the two formats is different. In multiplayer, bluffing and reading opponents matter more; in dealer-vs-player, the math and probability of hands are more important. For beginners, the dealer format is an easier starting point.

Useful tips for beginners

Teen Patti may look simple, but without knowing a few basics your balance can run out quickly. Keeping these tips in mind will make your start much smoother.

Start with Andar

Play the first few rounds without looking at your cards. The bets are lower, the risk is lower — and you get a chance to observe how other players behave.

Set Your Budget First

Set aside a fixed amount for a session. When that limit is reached, step away from the game — that is the foundation of responsible gaming.

Understand hand strength

If you get Ace-King-Queen or a suited sequence, play with confidence. Staying in too long with a weak hand leads to bigger losses.

Watch your opponents

If someone keeps raising but avoids a showdown, they may be bluffing. Recognising this pattern is a key skill in Teen Patti.

Practice at low-stake tables

joya9 has tables with different stakes. Get comfortable at a low-stake table before moving to bigger ones.

Popular variants

While the core structure of Teen Patti stays the same, several popular variations have developed across regions and platforms. A few of these are available at live tables on joya9.

Classic Teen Patti

The original format — directly against other players, with no extra rules. The best starting point for beginners.

Muflis (Lowball)

The reverse of the normal rankings — here the weakest hand wins. A Trail is the worst here; High Card is the best.

AK47

The Ace, King, 4 and 7 cards act as jokers. Trails are much more likely to appear in this variant.

Best of Four

Each player receives four cards and plays the best three out of them. The chance of getting a strong hand increases.

Lowest Joker (999)

Each player's lowest-value card becomes their own wild card. This variant requires both strategy and luck.

Teen Patti JILI

JILI's digital version features fast rounds and side bets. If you enjoy fast games like Slots or Money Wheel, this variant is worth trying.

joya9 Teen Patti table etiquette and sessions

Table etiquette and session management

In online Teen Patti, other players or a live dealer are present, so certain rules of conduct should be followed. This is not just about courtesy — it is also important for fair play.

Decide on time

Make decisions quickly on each turn. Taking too long frustrates other players, and at some tables your hand is automatically folded.

Avoid chat distractions

Do not vent frustration about losses in the chat box. Speak politely to the live dealer — that reflects professionalism.

No multiple accounts

One person should have only one account. Multiple accounts violate the rules and risk getting your account suspended.

Take breaks

Playing for a long stretch reduces your ability to make good decisions. Taking a short break every one to two hours is a good habit.

Do not raise bets after a loss

After losing several hands in a row, there is a temptation to raise bets to recover losses. This "chasing" approach typically leads to even bigger losses.

Set limits beforehand

Before starting a session, set a win target and a loss limit. Once either is reached, end the session for the day.

Common FAQs

Bluffing is a valid strategy in multiplayer Teen Patti — especially when you are playing Andar (blind, without looking at your cards). Online, you cannot see other players' faces, so you have to read their betting patterns to make decisions. In the dealer-vs-player format, there is less room to bluff.

Andar means playing without looking at your cards — your bet is half of what a Seen player pays. Seen means you have looked at your cards. If you are Andar and want to challenge a Seen player, you must match their bet; if both players are Andar, different challenge rules apply.

Usually 3 to 7 players can sit at one table. The exact number varies by platform and variant. At joya9, if a live table is full, you can move to the next available table.

Yes. joya9's Android APK and iOS app are officially available, and live Teen Patti runs smoothly on mobile. You can also play from a browser without a separate app. All buttons and cards are clearly visible on smaller screens.

A showdown happens when only two players remain and one challenges the other. Both reveal their cards, and the player with the stronger hand according to the rankings above wins the entire pot. If the hands are equal, the player who issued the challenge loses.
